In Finnish mythology Ukko is the force underpinning sky, harvest, weather, and thunder, as generous as he is cantankerous. It is where ideas of reverence and bounty meet those of raw emotion and inevitable change. A fitting icon for food and kitchens alike, ukko is the title of our restaurant concept, representing a chance to eat, drink, and socialize better.
ukko’s cuisine is inspired by food stalls visited in our travels, memories of childhood meals, books poured over, chefs and kitchens we have come across in the course of our careers. Our food is ever-evolving and cannot be fenced in by one ethnicity or style, but you will find Thai, Japanese, Carribean, and Southern influences, among many others. Our style of cooking is defined by its attention to detail, from texture to temperature, seasoning and technique. We are humbled by the foods and foodways that nature, history, and culture have granted us.
We love Chattanooga, and we want to share our food with as many people as possible. ukko started out as a supper club, crafted sourdough pizza as tenants at Proof Bar & Incubator, and now we’re on to pop-up dinners and catering around town, on our way to the next culinary iteration.
